Happy Birthday

Well, it's the weekend and here in Canada it is a long one. Sunday we celebrate our nation's birthday - 145 years! So I wish you all a  HAPPY CANADA DAY!    I hope you get to enjoy some of the festivities in your community.
I know our country's colours are red and white, but I so wanted to use this DP that I had to add a bit of blue as I coloured this image by Saturated Canary. Isn't she adorable! Those eyes get me everytime. This entire card is made up of little bits of leftover odds & ends I found in my crafting room. I did a little stitching along one side of the image and added a bit of glitter to the balloon and flowers. I hand-printed the sentiment.
Well, that's it for today. I'm off to join in some fun-filled Canada Day activities. Until next time,
blessings,
Nancy

Well, this is it. The last Friday of June. Which means it time for my last Meljen's GD card.

I want to say a huge "Thank You" to the wonderful team of ladies over at Meljen's Designs. This has been a wonderful month that I will always remember . Thank you for all the kind words of encouragment and for being so helpful to a novice blogger. Melissa, your images are adorable, you are such a talented young woman.
For this card I chose to use  Melissa's sweet image "Raggy Jane's Trinkets". She's available right here in the shop

I'm not sure where I got the Dp, I've had it a long time. I cut the stars with my original Sizzix. The sentiment is computer generated. This card came together so easily I almost think it made itself, lol.

Wishing "God's Blessings" on you this weekend wherever you live
and especially on my fellow Canadians celebrating "Canada Day"
and our USA neighbours to the south celebrating "Independence Day".

A Little Corner Book Mark

Today I have a different little project for you. Over at Meljen's Designs the challenge this week is to make a "Book Mark". So I chose to  make a Corner one. They are quite quick and easy to make and a wonderful way to use up scrap paper. I think they make a sweet, inexpensive gift to give as well. For mine I used papers by MME. The image is one of Melissa's (Meljen's Designs) images called "Stitched Fan Flower". I printed the image out twice and cut out one of the flowers. I then coloured my main image with Copics. I used the cut out flower as a mask over the main image so that I could stamp a background on the circle part of the main image. After removing the mask I added a small button with an embroidery thread tie for the flower center. I cut the image out with a pretty scalloped edge die that I won from the Prickley Pear. I also cut out another scalloped circle with a Spellbinder die to use a matting for the main image. I inked all the edges and added a bit of "faux stitiching" as well. A bit of ribbon and a Sizzix die cut buckle to finish it off.
I know a lot of crafters use a punch to give this type of book mark a fancy bottom edge, and though I admit it looks really pretty that way, I find that a punched edge tears rather quickly during use. I also try to keep the embellishmnets on a book mark to flat things so as not to damage the pages in the book. Just a couple of hints I figured out the hard way, lol.
Hope you try your hand at this challenge.
Until next time.
Nancy

It's Your Day

Welcome to another week. Hope you had an enjoyable but restful weekend. Since it's Monday that means it's time for a new challenge at Kaboodle Doodles and this week we would like to see projects that use the Colours In Your Country's Flag. It can have any theme you'd like as long as the colour theme reflects your nation's flag. Maybe you could let us know what country you hail from since, I for one, am not really up on the different flags and their colours.
Since I live in SW Ontario, Canada my card features "Red & White". I used a couple of different DPs, one is by Stampin'up the other is a leftover piece of Christmas paper. I found this sketch on line at MoJo Monday ...I love sketches! Folder embossed the background cardstock and added some real stitching to the edges. I used a Prickley Pear die to cut out the pretty doilies (one under the sentiment, the other under the flower). I love this die and it cut really well in my Grand Caliber. Sentiment is a rubber stamp and I used Tim Holtz's Distress Ink. Layered flower was cut from a Spelllbinder die. A bit of gingham ribbon and a brad flower center to finish this up.
Looking forward to seeing your projects.

(ps) So excited.. I just had to share that I was a winner over on Papercraft Planet and won 5 fanastic digis by Jenn Nilsson http://doodlegardendigis.blogspot.ca/

2 Cute 4 Words

Hope you're looking forward to a wonderful day and weekend. Since today is Friday it is time again for my Meljen's GD card. For this one I chose to use Melissa adorable image "A Girl and Her Overalls". It's available right here

She actually looks just like me, well maybe 50 years ago, lol. On second thought I guess she looks just like my adorable granddaughter., Alanna.
Anyway, the DP's are MME, as are the brads & the tag sentiment. I used a Spellbinder die to cut out the leaves & then added the paper flowers & pearls.
Hope you can take a few minutes to go over to the Meljen's Design site and check out Melissa sweet images. You'll be so glad you did.

hugs,
Nancy

Enjoy

Well it's Thursday and that means it's time for a new challenge over at Meljen's Designs. This week they have a great Sketch for you to use. This is my take on it. I used Melissa's sweet "Ice Cream Sundae" image, which I coloured with Copics, adding a bit of glitter to the whipped cream toppipng. My DPs are by MME. (I was shopping at Winners last Saturday and found these cute little 6x6 pads by MME for $3.99 each! Well, I bought 3 different packs - just couldn't resist!). The sentiment is a rubber stamp that I got at Michael's. I believe I got the cute little buttons there also.
Well, that's it for today. I sure hope you'll take up the Meljen challenge.
Enjoy your day,
Nancy

Canada Day Card

Well "Good Morning" to you. Hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend. Since it's Monday it's time for a new challenge over at Kaboodle Doodles and this week we want to see your projects that "Celebrate Your Country's Independence". Our sponsor this week is Di's Digi Downloads and she is generously offering a $10 voucher to her store. How sweet is that!
Here in Canada we will be celebrating Canada Day on July 1. The whole day is a day of celebration, including BBQ's, Fun Fairs, fireworks and parades. I love parades so I decided to show case that event in my project. The digital image is by Mo Manning and I was so delighted that Mo left the little flag blank so each papercrafter could colour it to suit their project. Thanks Mo! My main DP is by Stampin'up. The flowers & leaves were cut from scraps using a Spellbinder die. I decided to use some real stitching to dress it up a bit. The Canada embellishment is an oldie but goodie that I've had for quite some time. Added a few butttons, ribbon & brad flower centers to finish this card up.
So, that's my take on this week's theme, now I would love to see what you come up with. Hope you'll  play along. Just link up your project right here:

Until next time.
hugs,
Nancy

Father's Day Altered Gift Bag and Tag

Even though I feel like it should be Friday this week has just flown by! It's always that way at this time in the school year. End of year class trips, last minute concerts and exams looming near, makes for out of the ordinary days that seem to pass as a blur for this school custodian. I'll be glad when all the busyness slows down during summer holidays.
Over at Meljen's Designs they want to see your projects for Dad (or maybe that special guy in your life). Check out the great projects their DTs came up with right here, http://meljensdesignsdt.blogspot.ca/2012/06/challenge-114-dad.html .

For my project I chose to do an altered gift bag and tag. The sweet image is one of Melissa's, in fact I think it was a freebie. Check out her site, I'm sure you will find it there, who knows it might even still be free!
The DPs are by Simple Stories, "Generations". (kinda fitting for Father's Day). I tried adding some nice stitching to the tag but it went kinda "haywire", so I changed it into "messy" stitching and distressed all the edges of the tag to make it look like I planned it that way! What can I say...I was in a rush and didn't want to throw it away and start all over again. I think it added to the masculine look of this project as well.
Well, that's it for today. Hope you'll make a project for the Meljen's challenge...I'll be checking them out to see what you came up with and getting some great inspiration I'm sure.
(ps) I just stumbled upon this awesome blog that is offering somw wonderful candy - make sure you check it out!
hugs,
Nancy

Our sponsor this week is Digital Delights and they are offering you a $5 voucher to their store. How fun is that!
For my card I used their cute image "Birthday Pippin". My papers are all from my leftover scrapbox. I added some real stitching  to give my card a bit of detail. The sentiment is a free digital image that I printed in a larger size than normal.

On Saturday I had my draw for my Blog Candy and the winner is:

Strawbeary Fairy Card

Good Friday morning to you. Hope you're looking forward to a wonderful weekend. Today I have for you my second project as Meljen's Designs June Guest Designer. Since I hope to be making strawberry jam this week, (some of which will be given as gifts), I decided I needed to make up some cards and thought that Melissa's sweet image "Strawbeary Fairy" would work perfectly. I gave this card a distressed look by using a distressing tool & inking all the edges. I think the real stitching, buttons, jute cord & frayed muslin tag add to the distressed look. Brads are MME, I think. I bought the flower layers at Michael's. After colouring the image with Copic markers I added a bit of glitter to the swirls.
I hope you will take a minute & check out the cute images offered at Meljen's Designs, you can find them here: http://meljensdesignsdt.blogspot.ca/

and remember tomorrow I will be  picking a winner of my blog candy. You can still enter here:

Cheery Cherry Card

Today's card features a sweet "Cherry " image by Meljen's Designs.  I used a large Spellbinder die in my Grand Caliber to cut the card base plus the DP, (Crate Paper; Farmhouse), & it's matting. I also used a scalloped circle die to cut the doilies in the top corner. Applied a bit of folder embossing & distress ink to the smallest circle also. A few pearls, a pretty tag & a simple knotted piece od ribbon to finish it off. I think this will be the perfect card to go with a jar of homemade Cherry Preserves.
Thanks for stopping by. Remember my blog candy here:

Father's Day Card

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Our's was busy but fun. Visited with my daughter's in-laws on Saturday and Church picnic on Sunday.
Today I have my Kaboodle Doodles' DT card to share with you. Our theme this week is "All Manly Man" and our sponsor is the Stamping Boutique, who is offering 3 of their digital images as this week's prize.
For my card I used this Golfer digital image by Mo Manning. I used Copic markers to colour with. The DPs are all from my scrapbox. The 2 sided cardstock is by Tim Holtz and I used both sides ( one side as my card base & the other for matting). Since this is a "Guy Card" I kept the embellishments down to 2 brads.
I sure do hope you will create a "Guy Card" and join in on the fun at Kaboodle Doodles. Oh yeah, don't forget about my BLOG CANDY. You can enter right here:

Exciting News, A Card & Some Blog Candy!

OUT FOR PUBLISHING

I am so excited! For the month of June, I have been asked to be the "Guest Designer" at Meljen's Designs ( http://meljensdesignsdt.blogspot.ca/ ). I'm still pinching myself to make sure I'm not dreaming. I love Melissa's adorable images and I feel so blessed to have been given this opportunity. I hope my projects do justice to her sweet images.

To the Meljen Team, "Thank you" so much for this honour.

For my first project I decided to make a birthday card using Melissa's digital image "Birthday Cup Mouse". You can find him in her store right  here: http://shop.meljensdesigns.com/Mice_c4.htm?page=3
I used Copic markers and a gel pen to colour and decorate the image. My DP's are from my leftover scrapbox.  I added several small gemstones,(that I've had in my stash forever), a handcut banner and a free digital sentiment to complete the design of this card. I hope you like it...I'm actually quite pleased with how it turned out.

So, to celebrate being Meljen's June "Guest Designer" I've decided to give away a little "Blog Candy". How about a $6.00  Meljen's Design's "Gift Certificate " to  purchase 2 images of your choice? All you have to do is leave a comment (plus your email so that I can contact you if you are the winner). I'd love for you to become a "Follower" of my blog, but I won't make it manditory. Only one comment per person. Then, on June 9th, I'll pick a winner.

Thanks so much for stopping by and joining with me in celebration.

hugs, nancy
